Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, left for Islamabad to appear before a court there today to request temporary release on bail in five instances including vandalism at the courthouse.
Imran Khan himself presided over the meeting when the decision was taken, and party leaders and legal counsel were present. Imran Khan consulted with party members during the Sunday meeting to finalise the details of his court appearance.
The PTI leader would go to Islamabad on Monday morning to attend the hearing, it was decided. Along with the party’s legal team, Fawad Chaudhry has already departed for Islamabad.
Imran Khan is also anticipated to be accompanied to court today by other PTI central figures.
Imran’s protected bail was extended by LHC to March 27
Imran Khan received comfort on March 24 as the Lahore High Court extended his protective bail in five instances until March 27. Imran Khan was the target of a number of complaints in Islamabad, including “vandalism” at his most recent court appearance.
The higher court overturned its misgivings over the request for protective bail made by former prime minister Imran Khan in five cases.
The appeal filed by the former prime minister for a renewal of his protected bail due to his failure to appear before the appropriate courts in the charges filed with the Raman and Khana police stations was considered by a two-member panel made up of Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh and Justice Anwaar Hussain.
When asked if the Supreme Court will interfere in the Election Commission’s recent decision to postpone elections, the head of PTI replied that if the supreme court failed to overturn this decision, it would also be doubtful whether the elections would take place in October.
The PTI leader was defended in the case by attorneys Salman Safdar and Azhar Siddique. At the high court, a significant police presence was present to prevent any undesirable circumstances.
Imran Khan, 17 other PTI leaders summoned by CTD Islamabad today
Imran Khan and 17 other PTI leaders have been summoned by Islamabad’s counter-terrorism department (CTD) to participate in the inquiry into a charge filed against them for vandalism at the Federal Judicial Complex today (Monday).
