After being granted bail, Hassan Niazi was detained again

Late on Saturday, the Quetta police detained Barrister Hassan Niazi in accordance with Section 3 of the MPO (Maintenance of Public Order). He is a PTI leader and the nephew of former prime minister Imran Khan.

He was caught for assaulting police officers and causing mayhem close to the Judicial Complex in Islamabad’s G-11 neighborhood.

Niazi was taken into custody by the Balochistan police force from outside the Islamabad Judicial Complex and brought to Quetta. Following a bail request submitted by the PTI’s lawyer forum, he was detained under the 3MPO hours after a court magistrate in Quetta had granted him bail against a surety bond worth Rs100,000.

Niazi was taken from the jail to the Saddar police station despite the PTI lawyer forum representatives being present outside the jail. The Lahore police have in the meantime asked for his custody.

Based on a complaint made by Inspector Abdullah, the Quetta Airport police station opened a case against Niazi on March 18 for allegedly instigating violence and meddling in police matters.

According to the complaint, the sub-inspector learned of the blockage of Chaman Road in Quetta by 150 persons, including Inayatullah Kakar and others, when he was out on patrol. The protesters blocked the route for an hour despite police attempts to scatter them.

It should be noticed that the Quetta police did not include Niazi’s name in the FIR.

Niazi’s arrest is a part of an ongoing campaign against PTI employees who, according to the police, have abused law enforcement officers in Islamabad while they were doing their jobs.
